QUESTIONS
ABOUT GOD -
Why
would God give us all of these rules?" Well,
let's look at some of these rules and see if you
can tell me why God would give them to us. Here
are some of His rules:
•
Don't kill anyone.
• Don't steal from anyone.
• Be faithful to your husband or wife.
• Don't get drunk.
• Only have sex with your husband or wife.
• Take care of widows and orphans.
• Loosen the chains of injustice.
• Love your neighbor.
• Honor your parents.
• Love the people that society has rejected, and
anything you do for them I will look at it as
though you have done it for me. |
When you look at these rules you see a God who has love
for mankind instead of hatred. Let me ask you this:
"IF you were God and you created mankind and you
loved them, what rules would you give them? Would you
change any of Gods' commandments? Would you change
"Don't murder", "Don't steal",
"Honor your parents", "Don't give false
testimony about anyone", "Take care of widows
and orphans", "Love others as you love
yourself", "Love the God that created you",
"Be faithful to your wife", "Don't get
drunk." Notice this: Gods' rules don't say,
"Don't drink and don't have sex." The reason God
didn't tell us not to do these things is because He
created them for our enjoyment. God does not want to take
all the fun out of our lives. Rather, He says that He
wants you to enjoy them, but He knows that without rules
and regulations you have chaos. And if God did not put
into place guidelines on sex and alcohol he knew it would
destroy many lives, as the misuse of them is presently
doing.
A society without rules would be a absolutely terrible
place to live. Could you imagine living in a society where
it is okay to murder, rape and steal. You would live in
constant fear for your life and your possessions. After
living in a society like this for one day you would thank
God for his rules and His laws.
On the other hand, could you imagine how wonderful society
would be if we all followed Gods' commands. No one would
ever be murdered or stolen from. There would be no homes
destroyed by alcoholism and nobody killed by a drunk
driver. There would be no unfaithful husbands or wives,
which would greatly reduce number of broken homes. There
would be no sexually transmitted diseases such as aids,
herpes or gonareah. There would be no homeless or starving
people. The earth would be a place of peace, love, and
security. In my opinion the problem with society is not
Gods' rules but our choices to ignore them, because all of
Gods' rules are designed to help mankind.
You might say, "I understand why God gave us rules
for society, but why would he give us rules about
sex". Let me answer your questions with some
questions: Who do you think designed sex? Who do you think
designed the body with its shapes and curves? It was God.
If God didn't want us to enjoy sex, He wouldn't have made
men/women look so great and sex feel so good. But He did.
Why? Because He wanted His children to enjoy it.
At the same time, what gives great pleasure can also cause
great pain if done outside God's guidelines. I am not just
talking about external consequences such as disease,
unwanted pregnancy and emotional trauma. I am talking
about the effects it can have on the family. Imagine if
there were no limitations on sex, and you were to come
home from work one day, and a man was sitting on the couch
with your kids. You ask your wife, "Honey who is
he"? And she says, "Oh, that's just Bob, he did
a good job fixing the car and he is kind of cute, so I
just thought I would take him home to meet the kids and I
am going to go ahead an spend the night with him. Would
you mind maybe sleeping on the couch tonight."
I hope this illustration, as ridiculous and offensive as
it might be catches your attention and makes you seriously
consider what it would be like if there were no
limitations on sex. How would you feel if you were that
husband or if that woman were your mom? Hollywood and the
media focus so much attention on the pleasure you might be
missing out on if you maintain purity in and before your
marriage. But so little attention is focused on the
reality of the consequences of sex outside of God's
guidelines. You see, having you and your family's best
interest at heart, God put guidelines in place to help
keep the family together. He not only knew this was best
for you, but that it was best for your children. For in
His incredible wisdom, God knew that the best way to raise
children was with a mother and a father. And God knew that
sex is more than a physical experience. He created sex to
be an emotional bond between two people. So if this bond
is destroyed, the family unity is weakened and many times
destroyed.
When you examine the rules and guidlines that God gave
mankind to live by you will find that at the foundation of
all of God's laws there is LOVE! Let me Explain. Jesus,
when He was asked what the greatest commandment God gave
to man kind was, gave this reply:
"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with
all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first
and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love
your neighbor as yourself' All the Law and the Prophets
hang on these two commandments." What this verse is
saying is that all of the laws that God has given to
mankind can be simplified into 2 basic commands, Love God
and Love others! If you will live your life following
these commandments you will fulfill all of God's laws. For
instance, If you murder, steal, rape, or lie about someone
you have not behaved in a loving manor to your fellow man
so you would have broken God's law. God's laws are not
tedious or pointless as some people think, but rather they
are practical and beneficial to all mankind.
I hope now that you have a better understanding why God
has given us Rules. It is because He loves us, and he
wants us to enjoy life. The rules he gave are not intended
to take a way your joy or your fun but rather to add to
them. In fact, I bet if you were to look back to some of
the most painful times of your life you will find they are
a result of either you or someone else breaking God's Laws
that were intended to prevent that pain!
